San Juan Capistrano Elopements

San Juan Capistrano
Elopement

An Oaks Ceremony, Mission Portraits,               and Optional Beach Sunset

A Relaxed San Juan Capistrano Elopement Experience

We call this an experience because the day unfolds across several beautiful locations instead of happening in just one place.

The ceremony begins beneath the oak and sycamore trees at Reatta Park in San Juan Capistrano. From there, we head a few minutes into the historic district for portraits at Mission San Juan Capistrano — one of the most iconic landmarks in Southern California.

Couples who want to extend the day can finish with sunset along the coast in San Clemente or Dana Point.

Everything is close together, which keeps the day relaxed and unhurried while still allowing you to experience several of the most beautiful settings in South Orange County.

This elopement experience is designed for couples who want something simple, relaxed, and beautiful without traveling far between locations.

All three locations are within about fifteen minutes of each other, making it easy to enjoy a full elopement experience in just a few hours.

Ceremony Beneath the Oaks

Your ceremony can take place at Reatta Park & Event Center in San Juan Capistrano, a quiet park setting surrounded by mature oak and sycamore trees.

The natural shade and peaceful surroundings create an intimate atmosphere that feels very different from a traditional venue. Small ceremonies here feel relaxed and personal, making it a perfect location for couples who want a meaningful moment without a large crowd.

Because the park is only minutes from the historic district of San Juan Capistrano, it’s easy to move on to portraits after the ceremony.

Portraits at Mission San Juan Capistrano

From the ceremony we head into the historic heart of San Juan Capistrano for portraits at Mission San Juan Capistrano.

The mission is one of the most iconic places in Southern California, and it’s easy to see why. The stone arches, courtyards, gardens, and old walls create an incredible backdrop for portraits.

This part of the day is usually where couples start to relax and enjoy the moment. We move through the mission grounds slowly, capturing portraits that feel natural and unhurried while taking advantage of the architecture and light throughout the property.

It’s a completely different atmosphere from the ceremony — historic, romantic, and full of character.

Extending the Experience to the Coast

Optional Beach Sunset Photos

For couples who want to extend the experience, the day can finish at the coast.

San Clemente and Dana Point are both a short drive from San Juan Capistrano, and sunset along the ocean adds an entirely different feel to the final part of the day.

By the time we reach the beach the light is soft, the crowds start thinning out, and everything slows down again. It’s the perfect way to end the experience — a few quiet moments together while the sun drops toward the horizon.

Celebrate After Your Elopement

One of the nice things about eloping in San Juan Capistrano is that once the ceremony and Mission portraits are finished, you’re already right in the middle of the historic downtown area.

The streets surrounding the Mission — especially along Verdugo Street — are full of great restaurants, wine bars, and small cafes, all within easy walking distance. Many couples like to wander through downtown after their portraits and grab dinner or a drink while soaking in the relaxed atmosphere of the town.

And if the timing works out, I sometimes like to make one last stop with couples at the legendary Swallows Inn for a quick celebratory drink — and of course a few photos inside to remember it.

It’s a simple and fun way to finish the experience before heading off to dinner, sunset at the beach, or wherever the evening takes you.
